Facilities
The Lewis County Humane Society is located just over 6 miles from the village of Lowville in a 7,012 square foot one story building. The current building consists of: -A cat room with three separate rooms for males, females, and kittens, play room, and storage room. -Kennels for stray dogs. Up to 16 dogs can be housed at a time. -Kennels for boarding. Up to 18 dogs can be boarded at one time. -A 48' x 40' cement slab with radiant heat and 3 trench drains. -A 56'x40' loose gravel area with 7 7' x 10' separated tie-outs. -A 64' x 10' unheated area with cement floor, trench drain, and 10 6' x 6' kennels. -Office and 3 utility rooms.
There are currently plans to finish the back 104' x 40' area. That area would then include: -41 Kennels for stray dogs on a 48' x 40' cement slab with radiant heat. -A 16' x 20' Lobby -A 7' x 5' handicapped accessible restroom. -A 9' x 8' Visiting Room. -A 7' x 12' and a 9' x 12' room for grooming, veterinary care, etc. -A 40' x 40' Meeting and Training room. Obedience classes may also be held here.
The back 104' x 40' area construction is currently halted because of a lack of funds. The Lewis County Humane Society has no paid staff, and is run entirely on donations, grants, memberships, and income from boarding.
