Staff
Our Shelter and Kennel are completely operated by volunteers and is family run. We have no paid staff.
Cliff Cook (Executive Director/Animal Control Officer) Cliff Cook is manager of the Humane Society Shelter and Whispering Pines Boarding Kennel. In addition to the management aspect of the Shelter and Kennel, Cliff also is hands-on in the care of the dogs. He begins each day at 3:00AM to clean the shelter/kennel and feed the dogs. Cliff has been a Dog Control Officer in Lewis County since 1980. Over the years, he has added additional towns so that he now is Dog Control Officer for 15 of the 17 towns in Lewis County. Through the Humane Society, Cliff is also Animal Control Officer and Humane Officer for the entire county. Cliff has four children, six step children and 13 grandchildren. He enjoys concerts and visiting interesting sites in his free time.
Ingrid Honey (Operations Assistant) Ingrid Honey is Cliff's companion who joined the staff in October of 2002 when she began working with the dogs and cats as well as helping with the backlog of paperwork. Over time she has taken over the newspaper articles and much of the paperwork and the many reports necessary in running a shelter. Ingrid does adoptions, redemptions and helps with the day to day operations of the shelter and kennel as well as doing the morning cleaning of the Cattery but she also helps with the dogs when needed . Ingrid also plans fundraising events and designs the posters for various events. With a great deal of help from Matthew, Ingrid tries to keep the information sections of the websites updated. Ingrid also fills in when Cliff is unavailable both in the shelter and with animal control. Ingrid has six children who keep her busy outside the shelter.
Matthew Phelps Matthew Phelps has been with the Humane Society since November 2002, beginning by working after school in the Cattery. Matthew has been doing adoptions, working with the computer to upgrade our filing system and as well as doing the graphics and technical aspects of our websites. In addition to this Matthew designed our new Cattery with it's colony rooms and work area. Since doing the research and winning the approval of the Board, Matthew is currently designing the plans for our rain water recovery system, as well as the expansion floor plan and ventilation system. In his spare time Matthew works on websites for Ingrid's sister-in-law and brother's movie theater, the Lowville Town Hall Theatre, as well as the Lowville Baptist Church, the Pratt-Northam Foundation, Care Net of Northern New York, Lewis County Maple Producers Association, Moncrief Land Surveying, jeb's Restaurant and other local businesses and organizations.
